Visiting Antwerp By Bike
Earlier this month we seized the chance to visit Antwerp during what was easily the gayest weekend we’ve experienced in quite a while. But discovering how gay-friendly Antwerp is was not the only revelation we had during our first visit to Belgium. It was also quite evident how bike-friendly the city was so we took that fact as an opportunity to explore the city by bike. During our stay in Antwerp, one of our hosts from the Flanders Tourism Board informed us that not only locals, but tourists could easily rent Velo bikes all around the city by quickly setting up an account online via a computer or even a smartphone.
Apps That Don’t Work Abroad
I was disappointed to find that Pandora does not work in Central America nor outside the U.S. in general (as far as I’m aware).
Then I also found out that Netflix is available in Central America, but does not necessarily offer the same content that is does in the States. However, it did offer content relevant to where we were traveling. Which is kind of nice since we can watch some Spanish shows and movies while in Central America that aren’t available in the states. This map shows in which countries Netflix is available. Basically, in almost all of North and South America and almost none of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Lastly, yesterday Auston just found out Skype does not work in Belize. I guess Belize blocks all internet phone calls like Skype and Google Voice.
Just some heads up for when traveling abroad. Don’t get too attached to your apps like we did!

iPhone Apps for Traveling
Even though we cancelled our phone services with Verizon and AT&T, Auston and I both wanted to bring our iPhones with us while we traveled. I assumed it would be to listen to music, snap a picture if our regular camera wasn’t handy, or to go online while connected to wi-fi.
I did not expect to find so much more use out of them though. I was very pleased to find that the GPS function on the iPhone still works without cellular data and without wi-fi. This means you can use it for free. A phone service connection and/or wi-fi would help the GPS location to be a little quicker, but it is not necessary to be connected to any service or wi-fi.
